Overview of Nimgiri Fort
Nimgiri Fort is an ancient hill fort in the Junnar taluka of Pune district, Maharashtra. It rises between 3,450 and 3,625 feet, and it is one of the seven significant forts of Junnar which had been historically used to guard ancient trade routes along the Sahyadri ranges.
Geographic Setting
This fort is close to Naneghat trade pass, which commands a view of valleys between Junnar and Kalyan. Its high position enabled it to monitor the routes of caravans all the time; hence Nimgiri Fort was of great strategic importance in monitoring the trade route, movement and security of the area during the medieval periods.
