Kenjalgad Fort is a pre-historic hill fort of Satara district, Maharashtra. On the Mandhardev spur it is said to be rhomboid, steep, and the scarp is made of stone, with a long and easy trekking path and is a favorite among beginners and families.
Location
The fort is approximately 4269 feet above the Mahadev hill range. It is surrounded by open plateaus and greenery that provide expansive views of the Wai area, the rural settlements and farming lands around it which are seasonal.
Historical Background
Kenjalgad Fort was constructed in the twelfth century by Bhoj Rajas of Panhala and subsequently it was handed over to the Adil Shahi dynasty, the Mughals, and the Marathas. It was conquered by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in 1674.
British Period
The fort was captured by the British in 1818 and was destroyed by them destroying the entrance and water tanks. These measures were to stop the continued use of the military.
Architectural Features
There is a thirty to forty feet vertical stone scarp that is a natural defensive wall. It also has fifty-five steps that have been cut out of the rock, the remnants of a magazine room, and figures of Kenjai Devi.

The hike to Kenjalgad Fort is not challenging and all beginners should do it. The trail is not lengthy as it is well-marked and does not demand any technical advancement.

It typically takes thirty to forty five minutes to climb up the base village at a slow pace, giving room to rest and take photos.

The least distance is the one starting at Ghera Kenjal village. The other path is a connection of the fort to Raireshwar Plateau which provides a more scenic walk.
