Overview of Laling Fort

Laling Fort is a historical hill fort adjacent to Dhule, Maharashtra and is located on a hill with height of approximately 1,995 feet. Constructed at the end of the fourteenth century, it used to protect important trade routes and nowadays, it is visited by trekkers, people interested in history, and photographers.

Geographic Location

The fort is approximately nine to ten kilometers below the city of Dhule near the Mumbai Agra highway. The fact that it is located on the top of a hill within the Gaalna range is significant since it provides extensive views of nearby plains which makes it strategic in Medieval Deccan warfare.

Historical Background

Malik Raja Faruqui of the Faruqi dynasty built Laling Fort in the years 1370 to 1399. It was used as a defensive and administrative hub to the Khandesh area in recurrent wars between Bahmani, Faruqi and then Mughals.

The fort was a strategic military site because of where it was located in the SuratBurhanpur trade route.
